Removing Users from a Project
2 min read
Removing a user from a project removes their direct access to that project. It does not delete the user from the workspace.
Before removing access, check whether the user also has inherited access through groups.
Remove Access from the Project Users Page
Section titled “Remove Access from the Project Users Page”To remove direct access from the current project:
- Open the project
- Go to Users
- Find the user in the Project Users table
- Use the remove action
- Confirm the removal
After confirmation, the user’s direct project role is removed.
Remove Project Access from Workspace User Details
Section titled “Remove Project Access from Workspace User Details”You can also remove a project assignment while reviewing a user from the workspace.
To remove a project from a user’s assignments:
- Open the workspace Users page
- Select the user
- Click Edit
- Open the Projects section
- Remove the project assignment
- Apply the updates
This is useful when one person needs access changes across multiple projects.
What Happens After Removal
Section titled “What Happens After Removal”When direct project access is removed:
- The user loses their direct role for that project
- The user remains a workspace member
- The user may still access other projects
- The user may still access the same project through group membership
- Project data created by the user is not deleted
If a user still appears on the project Users page after direct access is removed, review their inherited roles.
Inherited Access
Section titled “Inherited Access”Inherited access comes from groups. A user with inherited access cannot be fully removed from a project by deleting only their direct role.
To remove inherited access, update one of these:
- Remove the user from the group
- Remove the group’s project access
- Change the group’s project role
When Removal Is Unavailable
Section titled “When Removal Is Unavailable”The remove action may be unavailable when:
- Your role does not allow project member management
- The user has no direct role for the project
- The user’s access is inherited through a group
- The user has a protected project role that requires additional permission
