Defect Details
2 min read
The Defect Details view gives you the full record for a defect. It includes the description, status, priority, severity, assignment, due date, custom fields, comments, traceability, history, notifications, external links, and related defects.
Opening A Defect
Section titled “Opening A Defect”From the project Defects page, select a defect row to open it.
Defects can open in:
- Panel view, which keeps the list visible while showing details beside it
- Full-page view, which gives the defect more room
Use the layout action in the header to switch between panel and full-page review where available.
Header
Section titled “Header”The details header includes:
- Defect code
- Editable title
- Age badge
- Refresh action
- Layout action
- Delete action when permitted
Users with edit access can select the title, update it, and confirm or cancel the change.
Full-Page Sections
Section titled “Full-Page Sections”In full-page (and panel) view, the defect is organized into collapsible sections rather than top-level tabs.
Description Section
Section titled “Description Section”The Description section includes:
- Rich description
- Attachments
- Reporter
- Assignee
- Status
- Resolution when the defect is closed
- Priority
- Severity
- Due date
- Custom fields
- Notifications
- Related defects
- Similar defects
Editable fields update the defect for users with permission. Read-only views show the same information without edit controls.
Traceability Section
Section titled “Traceability Section”The Traceability section shows linked work items and external issues.
Users with edit access can add or remove links to:
- Requirements
- Test cases
- Executions
- Test runs
- Releases
Removing a traceability link breaks the connection but does not delete the linked item.
Activity Section
Section titled “Activity Section”The Activity section groups everything that happens on a defect under three sub-tabs:
- All: a merged feed of comments, changes, traceability, and integration updates.
- Comments: collaboration and investigation notes. Comments support rich text, mentions, replies, editing, deleting, and reactions. Threaded replies keep discussions connected to the original comment.
- History: a timeline of defect changes, including details, comments, traceability, and integration updates. Use history to understand what changed, who changed it, and when it changed.
External Issues
Section titled “External Issues”External issue cards show linked issues from connected tools. Cards can include issue key, status, priority, assignee, last updated time, and an action to open the issue in the external tool.
If permitted, users can link more external issues or unlink existing ones. Unlinking removes the Hawzu connection only; it does not delete the external issue.
Drawer View
Section titled “Drawer View”When a defect opens in the drawer (for example, from a related or similar defect), it uses two tabs instead of sections:
- Details: description, custom fields, and a summary sidebar (status, priority, severity, resolution, due date, reporter, assignee, and related defects).
- Comments: the threaded comment discussion.
Related And Similar Defects
Section titled “Related And Similar Defects”The details sidebar can show:
- Related Defects that users linked
- Similar Defects suggested by Hawzu
Users can link as related, link as duplicate, close as duplicate, open suggested details, or unlink related defects depending on the available action.
Notifications
Section titled “Notifications”Use Notify me to follow a defect. Users with access can also add or remove other notifiers.
Notifications help keep stakeholders aware of changes and discussion.
Next Steps
Section titled “Next Steps”- Learn collaboration details in Comments and Notifications
- Manage traceability in Traceability and External Issues
- Review change tracking in Defect History
