Managing Custom Roles

Use the Roles page to review system and custom roles, filter by role type, and update custom-role permissions.
Review the Roles Page
Section titled “Review the Roles Page”Each role card shows:
- Role name
- Role description
- Scope: workspace or project
- Category: system or custom
Select a role to open its details view.
Search, Filter, and Sort Roles
Section titled “Search, Filter, and Sort Roles”Use the filters area to:
- Search by role name or description
- Filter by scope: workspace or project
- Filter by category: system or custom
- Sort by role name
- Sort by description
- Sort by scope
Filtering by Custom is the quickest way to find roles your team can edit.
System Roles Are Read-Only
Section titled “System Roles Are Read-Only”System roles are built-in roles. Their details view can show allowed actions, restricted actions, and special rules.
System roles do not show custom-role edit and delete actions. Use them as reference roles when deciding whether a custom role is needed.
Edit a Custom Role
Section titled “Edit a Custom Role”To edit a custom role:
- Open the Roles page
- Select a custom role
- Click Edit Role
- Update the role name, description, or permissions
- Click Save Changes
The role name is required. The save action is available only after something has changed.
Edit Workspace Role Permissions
Section titled “Edit Workspace Role Permissions”Workspace custom roles can include:
- Visibility permissions
- Project coordination permissions
- Group management permissions
Each permission can be turned on or off. Category controls let you select or deselect all permissions in that category.
Edit Project Role Permissions
Section titled “Edit Project Role Permissions”Project custom roles can include permissions for project work such as:
- Requirements
- Test cases
- Test suites
- Shared steps
- Parameters
- Executions
- Releases
- Defects
- Custom fields
- Labels
- Roles
Changing permissions affects users who are assigned the role directly and users who inherit the role through groups.
