Observatory Glossary

1 min read

This glossary defines the core Observatory concepts and the vocabulary used throughout the documentation. It exists so that every term means the same thing consistently across the product and the docs.

Insight A ready-made analytical question. An insight has a fixed data source, aggregation, and visualization, so you choose the question and Hawzu builds the chart. See Smart Insights.

Recommendation A personalized insight suggested from a project’s current health signals. Recommendations appear in the Based on your project section and change as the project changes. See Recommendations.

Collection A curated set of insights added to a panel in one click. Each collection targets a role or workflow. See Collections.

Category A question-first grouping of insights — Coverage, Automation, Execution, Quality, Defects, Requirements, Release Health, or Team. See Insight Categories.

Panel A dashboard container that holds a set of charts. See Panels.

Chart A single visualization inside a panel. A chart is created from a Smart Insight, a Collection, or the Custom Builder. See Charts.

Data Source The project data area a chart reads from — Repository, Executions, Requirements, Defects, Test Runs, Releases, Flaky Tests, or Users. See Chart Data Sources.

Dimension A categorical field used to group data, typically the chart’s X axis — for example, priority, severity, status, or automation status.

Metric A numeric value being measured, typically the chart’s Y axis — for example, count, pass rate, coverage %, or flip count.

Visualization The chart form used to display results — bar, stacked bar, line, area, doughnut, polar area, bar + line, or a time-series trend.

Project Health The scorecard on the Observatory landing page that scores a project from 0 to 100 across automation, coverage, execution, quality, and defect health. See Project Health.
