Before you generate test cases on a topic, ask Canon about it. In seconds you’ll know whether your documents cover it, instead of finding out after reviewing forty drafts.
Why Check First
Section titled “Why Check First”Oracle searches Canon the same way the AI Test Case Generator does when it picks which documents to use.
- If your document comes up, the generator will find it when you generate on that topic.
- If nothing comes up, generation on that topic probably won’t find it either. The test cases will be written from general AI knowledge, without source tags.
Check a Topic
Section titled “Check a Topic”-
Open the project you’re about to generate test cases in.
-
Select Ask Oracle in the header.
-
Set the source to Canon.
-
Ask about the topic the way your spec would describe it, for example
What does our checkout spec say about expired cards? -
Read the answer and the sources listed under it. Each Canon source shows the document title and the page or section Oracle used.
Repeat for two or three of the topics you plan to generate on.
Reading the Result
Section titled “Reading the Result”- The right document is listed. If a question about login lists your accessibility standard but not your login spec, the login spec is probably thin on that topic.
- The answer is testable. If it only says what a feature is for, without rules, limits or error messages, the test cases won’t have much to check either.
- The section points somewhere useful.
§ 4.2 Expiry handlingis something a reviewer can open and check.
When Nothing Is Found
Section titled “When Nothing Is Found”Oracle tells you it couldn’t find the topic in your project documents. That is useful to know, not an error. Try these, in order:
-
Add the missing document. The topic may not be written down in Canon. See Add documents to Canon.
-
Check the document’s status is Grounding. A document that is still processing or has failed is listed but can’t be found. See Manage Canon documents.
-
Use your spec’s words. A question that uses the terms your document uses finds more than one written in test jargon.
If a topic isn’t covered and you generate anyway, consider turning Ground in Canon off for that run so nobody mistakes the output for spec-based work. See Grounding and citations.
