Deleting Custom Roles

Only custom roles can be deleted. System roles are built-in reference roles and cannot be deleted from the role details view.
Delete a Custom Role
Section titled “Delete a Custom Role”To delete a custom role:
- Open the Roles page
- Select a custom role
- Click Delete Role
- Review the confirmation
- Select a replacement role when required
- Confirm deletion
This action cannot be undone.
Workspace Custom Roles
Section titled “Workspace Custom Roles”When deleting a workspace custom role, Hawzu requires a replacement role when replacement roles are available.
Users assigned to the deleted workspace role are reassigned to the selected replacement role.
The replacement list includes system roles of the same scope, excluding protected roles such as platform, owner, manager, and project-manager roles.
Project Custom Roles
Section titled “Project Custom Roles”When deleting a project custom role, users assigned to that role lose the permissions provided by it unless another role or group still grants access.
Review direct and inherited project access before deleting project custom roles.
What Deletion Affects
Section titled “What Deletion Affects”Deleting a custom role can affect:
- Users directly assigned to the role
- Users who inherit the role through groups
- Available role choices for future assignments
Deleting a role does not delete users, groups, projects, or project data.
Before You Delete
Section titled “Before You Delete”Before deleting a custom role:
- Check who currently uses the role
- Confirm whether a system role can replace it
- Review groups that assign the role
- Consider editing permissions instead when the role is still useful
