Observatory Panels Overview - Analytics Guide

Panels are containers that organize multiple charts into cohesive dashboards. They help you group related visualizations, create focused analytics views, and share insights with your team.

What are Panels?

Panels are:

  • Dashboard Containers: Hold multiple charts together
  • Organizational Units: Group related visualizations
  • Shareable Views: Can be shared with team members
  • Customizable: Have titles and descriptions

Each panel can contain multiple charts, allowing you to create comprehensive dashboards for specific purposes or audiences.

Viewing Panels

Panels List

The panels list displays all panels in a grid layout:

  • Panel Cards: Each card shows:
    • Panel title
    • Description (truncated if long)
    • Number of charts in the panel
    • Actions menu (Edit, Delete)

Panel Card Information

Title: Panel name displayed prominently

Description: Brief summary (truncated with ellipsis if long)

Chart Count: Number of charts in the panel (e.g., “3 Charts”)

Actions Menu: Three-dot menu with Edit and Delete options

Opening a Panel

To open a panel:

  1. Click on any panel card
  2. The panel dashboard opens, showing all charts
  3. Use the back button to return to panels list

Panel Dashboard Features

When you open a panel, you see:

Header:

  • Panel title
  • Back button to return to panels list
  • “Add Chart” button to create new charts

Charts Grid:

  • All charts in the panel
  • Responsive grid layout (2 columns on desktop, 1 on mobile)
  • Each chart is interactive

Empty State:

  • If no charts exist, shows an empty state message
  • Provides “Create Your First Chart” button

Panel Properties

Each panel has the following properties:

  • Panel ID: Unique identifier (auto-generated)
  • Title: Panel name
  • Description: Brief summary
  • Charts: List of charts in the panel
  • Created Date: When the panel was created
  • Updated Date: When the panel was last modified
  • Project: Project the panel belongs to
