Defect Assignments & Notifiers Guide

Assigning Defects

To assign a defect:

  1. Open defect details
  2. In the sidebar, click Assignee dropdown
  3. Search or select user
  4. User is assigned immediately

To assign to yourself:

  1. Click Assign to Me button
  2. You are assigned immediately

Assignment Best Practices

  1. Assign Early: Assign during triage
  2. Match Skills: Assign to appropriate team member
  3. Update Assignee: Change if workload shifts
  4. Unassign: Remove assignee if needed
  5. Notify: Ensure assignee is aware

Unassigning Defects

To unassign:

  1. Open defect details
  2. Click Assignee dropdown
  3. Clear selection or select “Unassigned”
  4. Defect becomes unassigned

Adding Notifiers

To add notifiers:

  1. Open defect details
  2. In the sidebar, find Notifiers section
  3. Click Add Notifier
  4. Search or select users
  5. Users are added to notifier list

Notifiers receive notifications for:

  • Status changes
  • Assignment changes
  • Comments added
  • Priority/severity changes
  • Due date updates

To remove notifiers:

  1. Open defect details
  2. In Notifiers section
  3. Click remove icon next to user
  4. User is removed from notifiers

Best Practices

Assignment

  1. Assign Early: During triage
  2. Match Skills: Assign to right person
  3. Update Assignee: Change if needed
  4. Communicate: Notify assignee
